SEGAMAT: Police have arrested a "Peeping Tom" for allegedly peeping and recording a woman inside a restaurant’s toilet at Bandar Putra on May 4.

Segamat OCPD Supt Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said the suspect, a local man in his 20s, used his mobile phone to record the victim while she was in the toilet at 10.38pm.

"While urinating, the victim reportedly noticed suspicious movement around the toilet before detecting a phone recording of her," he said at a press conference.

Supt Ahmad Zamry said the victim hurriedly left the toilet, suspecting someone had been recording her.

She immediately lodged a police report at the Segamat Police District Contingent headquarters, and the suspect was arrested on May 9.

Supt Ahmad Zamry said police also found about 16,000 explicit photos of women recorded and downloaded on the suspect’s mobile phone, including two videos of the woman in the toilet.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 377d/292 of the Penal Code.

Supt Ahmad Zamry also reminded the public to be alert and aware of similar cases and called upon those with knowledge or information on such cases to come forward to assist the police.
