Asean Summit 2025: Education Ministry to announce schools allowed to conduct remote learning

PUTRAJAYA: The Education Ministry will announce the number of schools permitted to conduct online learning during the 2025 Asean summit, while private companies in Kuala Lumpur are encouraged to allow remote work, says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

The Communications Minister said several heads of state will be in Kuala Lumpur for the Asean and Asean-GCC summits from May 25 to 27.

"Specific routes will be allocated for their travel," he said, adding that the public is advised to use public transportation during this time.

He said a circular from the Public Service Department was released last week to allow remote work for affected public offices.

Separately, Fahmi said RTM will air live coverage of the meeting between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday (May 14) evening.

He said the Prime Minister's participation in the Economic Forum in Kazan, Russia, marks a significant milestone and will strengthen trade between the countries.

"As mentioned before, he is the first Malaysian leader in nearly two decades to receive a ceremonial guard of honour in Moscow," he said.

On the 2014 MH17 tragedy, he said the Cabinet has reviewed a statement from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

"The Transport Ministry will issue a media statement in response, coordinated with Wisma Putra, expected tomorrow (Thursday) or the following day," he said.

The United Nations aviation council on Monday ruled that Russia was responsible for the downing of a Malaysian airliner over Ukraine that killed all 298 passengers and crew, including 196 Dutch citizens and 38 Australian citizens, the Dutch and Australian governments said in separate statements, Reuters reported.

According to the report, both governments said the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) would, in the coming weeks, consider what form of reparation was in order.

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur on July 17, 2014, was shot down over eastern Ukraine amid fighting between pro-Russian separatists and Ukrainian forces.
