SAR launched for four missing persons in Lahad Datu forest

KOTA KINABALU: Four people are believed to be missing after they went foraging in a forest in Tamaco Tungku, Lahad Datu.

However, only one missing person report has been received so far, for a man identified as Fendery Ani, 37.

The four were said to have ventured into the forest at around 4pm on Thursday (May 8).

Fendery was supposed to return to work on Sunday (May 11), but he never showed up.

His cousin lodged a missing person report with the police at 7.02am on Monday (May 12), prompting a search and rescue (SAR) operation.

The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department has been notified and is conducting the SAR operation, said Lahad Datu fire station chief Sumsoa Rashid.

“Our men have headed into the area where Fendery was last seen to get more details,” he said in a statement, adding that attempts to reach the man on his mobile phone have been unsuccessful.

The authorities are also trying to get more information on the other three persons, as Fendery's family and friends have not heard from them as well.
