Mutual respect essential for harmony, says Sabah Council of Churches

KOTA KINABALU: Mutual respect and understanding among faith communities is essential for sustaining harmony in a multi-religious society, says the Sabah Council of Churches.

In a Wesak Day message, the Council extended warm wishes to the Buddhist community and highlighted Malaysia’s strength in its religious and cultural diversity.

It urged the public to reflect on the teachings of the Buddha, especially the call to compassion for all living beings, a principle embraced by many faiths.

“In these challenging times, let us come together to promote peace, love, and harmony within our communities,” the Council said in a statement on Monday (May 12).

Wesak Day, the most sacred festival in the Buddhist calendar, serves as a timely reminder of the shared values that unite people of different beliefs.

The Council expressed hope that the occasion would continue to inspire efforts to foster interfaith understanding and national unity.
