Two die, four injured in highway collision


KULAI: Fifteen people survived a four-vehicle crash on the North-South Expressway that killed two women, according to the Fire and Rescue Department.

Kulai Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Firdaus Juritah said the accident was reported at around 10.35pm on Thursday.

“The crash, involving a container lorry, a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), a sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle, happened at KM34 northbound of the expressway.

“There were a total of 17 people involved – a driver in the container lorry, five adults in the MPV, three adults and three girls in the SUV and two adults and three girls in the 4WD,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Two women in the MPV died from the crash, while the two other men and another woman in the same vehicle were injured.

“The driver of the lorry was also injured.

“The remaining people, including the six girls, managed to escape unhurt,” he added.

The four injured were rushed to Hospital Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim here for medical attention.

The bodies of the deceased were handed over to the police.
