Sabah polls: Pakatan and Barisan join forces


KOTA KINABALU: Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional have agreed to work together in the upcoming Sabah state election.

The decision was made following a top-level meeting on Thursday (May 8) between Pakatan chairman and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Barisan chairman and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the Unity Government Secretariat said in a joint statement.

Both leaders reached a consensus to work together in the state polls.

Further details on the cooperation, including seat distribution and discussions with other parties, will be conducted at the state level, the statement read.

“All decisions regarding the cooperation will then be finalised by the national leadership of both Pakatan and Barisan,” the statement read.

Pakatan secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and secretariat chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki jointly signed the statement on Friday (May 9).

The move reflects a continued commitment by both coalitions to maintain unity and stability under the Federal Government’s leadership while navigating the complex political landscape in Sabah.

Although the date of the Sabah state election has yet to be announced, preparations among political parties are already in full swing.
