PETALING JAYA: The Special Session of Parliament regarding the US retaliatory tariffs held on Monday (May 5) should be translated into a resolution, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The Ayer Hitam MP emphasised this point during his debate on the tariffs on Monday (May 5).
Citing the US retaliatory tariffs as an important issue, Dr Wee postponed his trip to Australia on Sunday (May 4), believing it was crucial to hear Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's address.
"If we were to compare the previous special session, there was a resolution, but the reason for no resolution this time is unknown to me.
"Having a resolution helps strengthen both political blocks' support for the government in sending Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz from our Parliament as a representative. This is what I want to see, where we put aside our political beliefs for what is important for the country.
"Ideally, it should be translated through a resolution similar to our stand against Israel’s aggression towards Palestine. We came up with a resolution that showed the bravery of our Parliament to the world," he said in a TikTok clip on Monday (May 5).
However, Dr Wee acknowledged the need for proper wording in the resolution to avoid any negative consequences.
He noted that during this special session, MPs had primarily gathered to listen.
Thus, he suggested that it would be better if there was a resolution translating something solid to represent the Dewan Rakyat.
