Floods: Number of evacuees increases in Sabah


KOTA KINABALU: The number of flood victims in Sabah increased to 1,627 people from 488 families as of 8am Monday (May 5) from 1,526 people (455 families) at 4pm the day before.

The state disaster management committee secretariat said in a statement that 1,268 people (377 families) in Sook are still at four remporary relief centres in the district.

The centres are the Datuk Ellron Agin Hall (671 victims), the Sook Community Hall (272),  SK Pekan Keningau 2 Hall (208), and the Kampung Ansip Tengah Hall (117).

In Beaufort, 359 victims (111 families) are at the Selagon permanent evacuation centre.

"A total of 19 villages are still affected by floods, 10 in Beaufort and nine in Sook," the statement read. – Bernama
