PUTRAJAYA: The education pathway through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), now acknowledged as a crucial driver of national progress, remains wide open to 2024 Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) graduates, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The National TVET Council chairman stated that the results obtained by the 2024 SPM candidates mark the beginning of their next chapter in life, whether they continue their academic studies, enter the workforce, or pursue technical and skilled fields.
"The door to education is always open to all SPM candidates," he said in a statement on Thursday (April 24).
He said that the government introduced the UP_TVET channel as an official platform for applying to and continuing studies in TVET programmes, with 12 ministries offering a total of 1,398 programmes nationwide.
"The number of students participating in the TVET programmes also increased to more than 436,285 participants last year, compared to 407,038 in 2023.
"The marketability rate of TVET graduates has also been impressive, reaching 94.5%, with TVET institutions under Mara recording a remarkable 98.7% employability rate," he said.
The 2024 SPM examination results recorded the best achievement since 2013 with a National Grade Average (GPK) of 4.49 points compared to 4.60 in 2023.
Analysis of the 2024 SPM results shows that the number of candidates who obtained excellent results, with Grades A+, A and A- in all subjects, increased to 14,179 people or 3.7% compared to 11,713 candidates in 2023. – Bernama
