GEORGE TOWN: Businesses like car wash outlets and hair salons plan on operating until they run out of stored water starting tomorrow night when Penang faces another scheduled water cut.
This time, the taps will run dry for between 24 and 60 hours, depending on the location.
Foo Keat Hang, 37, who runs three car wash outlets on the island, said two of them would face water disruption.
“The ones in Trengganu Road and Burma Road will be affected, but the one in Air Itam should be fine because it is fed by the Air Itam dam.
“We stored as much water as we could and will operate until we run out,” he said, hoping the water disruption would end earlier than scheduled.
Derick Ooi, the founder of a chain of hair salons, said their 21 branches in Penang will remain open during the water disruption.
“We have stored water at each branch and will remain open during the water disruption.
“We probably will not have enough for all three days, but we will be able to operate for the most part.”
This round of water cuts is to connect the new pipeline section crossing over Sungai Perai on mainland Penang near Butterworth.
