Man shot dead while hunting in oil palm plantation in Sibu


SIBU: A 35-year-old man was shot dead while hunting in an oil palm plantation area in Pasai Siong early Tuesday (April 22).

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili said the police received a report regarding the incident at 4.34am.

"During the incident, the victim and his friends were hunting at the said place and was later found with injuries believed to be caused by a gunshot. The victim died at the scene," he said in a statement.

Following the incident, police arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with the case.

The suspect has been remanded from April 22 to 27 to assist in investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries a mandatory death penalty," ACP Zulkipli added.

He also advised the public not to speculate on the case as it could interfere with the ongoing investigation.

"Anyone with information related to the case is urged to come forward and contact the investigating officer, Asst Supt Mohd Adzmei Ahmad, at 016-8095757, or approach any nearby police station," he said.
