Man cooks up robbery tale to avoid fine for lost MyKad in Kuala T'ganu

KUALA TERENGGANU: A man concocted a story about being robbed in an attempt to avoid paying a fine for losing his MyKad, Sinar Harian reports.

Kuala Terengganu OCPD Asst Comm Azli Mohd Noor told the Malay language daily that the 21-year-old man filed a police report on Monday (April 21) morning, claiming he had been robbed by an individual dressed entirely in black while traveling on a village road near the Ibai Golf area in Kuala Ibai.

"Initially, the suspect claimed that the man waved for help because his motorcycle had broken down by the roadside.

"The suspect allegedly turned back to assist, but was then attacked with a helmet and had his sling bag stolen," he said when contacted on Wednesday (April 23).

Azli explained that the suspect claimed the bag contained RM1,150 in cash, his MyKad, a mobile phone, a Fossil watch, and vaping equipment.

However, investigations revealed that the man actually lost the bag during a fight with an old acquaintance in Kampung Gong Tok Nasek.

According to Azli, the suspect, who was recently released from prison for a drug offence and is unemployed, admitted to filing a false report after being advised by his cousin.

"He also claimed he was unaware that making a false report to the police is an offence under the law.

"The case will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's office for further action," he said.
