KOTA KINABALU: The management and development of Sabah’s energy sector is expected to improve further with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sarawak, and the launch of the ECoS-SIRIM label, Tuesday.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said this MoU signed between ECoS and the Utility Minister and Telecommunication (MUT) Sarawak, as well as the updated safety label launching, would help both states expand their range of products and services.
He said consumers and businesses in both states are expected to benefit from these initiatives, with safety and quality being top priority.
He said this after witnessing the signing of the MoU and launched the ECoS-SIRIM label as well as the ECoS TVET programme in conjunction with ECoS’ Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here.
Hajiji believes that with the MoU, Sabah and Sarawak would be able to expand their range of products and services for the betterment of consumers and businesses in both states.
He urged consumers and businesses to prioritise safety and quality when it comes to electrical goods and dealing with the various power industries in Sabah.
“With so many goods coming in from other countries to Sabah, we have to make sure that the products that are used are of safe and good quality,” he stressed.
“I want the authorities to make sure they conduct inspections on products and services, and to put the people’s safety first,” Hajiji said.
He said this strategic collaboration between Sabah and Sarawak was vital and a proof of shared acknowledgement in ensuring that products used by consumers are of the highest quality.
Earlier in his speech, he said that since the establishment of ECoS, it has taken various steps to work towards these objectives, including launching the latest version of the ECoS-SIRIM safety label.
Hajiji said the ECoS-SIRIM safety label helps protect users while ensuring that electrical and gas appliances are of the required quality and standard.
He urged ECo to remain committed to ensuring systematic and efficient energy development in Sabah, for the benefit of the people.
He said with ECoS being given the authority as a regulatory body, it was the commission’s legal duty to ensure a safe, systematic and functional power industry in the state.
“I am sure ECoS will help see better and improved energy management in Sabah,” Hajiji added.
