Teenage biker, sister killed in Ulu Tiram crash with MPV

JOHOR BARU: A teenage boy and his sister were killed after their motorcycle collided with a multi-purpose vehicle at a traffic light junction in Felda Ulu Tebrau, near Ulu Tiram on Saturday night (April 20).

Seri Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said police received a report regarding the fatal accident at about 9.50pm.

Preliminary investigations found that the 15-year-old rider was travelling from Jalan Ledang towards Felda Ulu Tebrau, with his 20-year-old sister riding pillion.

“When they arrived at the traffic light junction, the motorcyclist made a right turn despite the traffic light being red. A vehicle, driven by a 40-year-old local man, had the green light and was unable to avoid a collision, striking the motorcycle from the right side,” he said in a statement on Monday (April 21).

The impact of the crash caused both siblings to be thrown into the opposite lane. They suffered severe head injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

ACP Mohd Sohaimi reminded all road users to obey traffic lights and adhere to road safety regulations at all times.

“Reckless behaviour and failing to follow traffic signals can lead to tragic consequences. We urge the public to drive cautiously and be patient on the road,” he said.

He also urged witnesses or those with relevant information to come forward and assist in the investigation by contacting the Seri Alam district police headquarters at 07-386 4222.
