TAPAH: Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) candidate for the Ayer Kuning by-election, KS Bawani, has declared her assets.
Demonstrating a commitment to transparency and accountability, the lawyer said her assets are valued at RM21,248.46, which include a Perodua Bezza car and savings at several banks.
“Some people think that being a lawyer, I must earn a lot. But in reality, I take on many pro bono cases, especially for indigenous communities and farmers.
“I don’t have a fancy car. I haven’t bought a house yet and I still have debt,” the PSM deputy secretary-general said at the farmers’ market here yesterday.
Bawani also stressed the importance of candidates declaring their assets before every election.
“This allows the people to assess if the elected representatives are clean or have gained wealth while in office,” she added.
Bawani said she has been running her campaign solely on volunteer efforts.
“The farmers donate vegetables, and the volunteers cook at our operations centre, help to distribute flyers, put up flags and spread our messages online.
“I hope the people will give us, the underdogs, a chance,” she added.
