Five-year-old boy with autism missing from Tuaran home

KOTA KINABALU: A five-year-old autistic boy has gone missing from his home in Kampung Bahagia Dua, Tamparuli, sparking a frantic search involving rescue teams, tracking dogs and local villagers.

The boy, Muhd Aniq, was last seen at around 1.30pm on Sunday before disappearing without a trace near the family’s home, which is located behind the Tamparuli district office.

The Tuaran Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 1.52pm and deployed 12 firemen, including two from the K9 unit, to scour a 300-metre radius.

Tuaran fire chief Mohamad Nor Amit said search teams rushed to the scene and began combing the area immediately, assisted by police, Civil Defence Force (APM) and concerned villagers.

“The operation was carried out with the help of tracking dogs, but the child has not yet been found,” he said in a statement on Sunday (April 20).

The search was temporarily suspended at 7pm following police instructions and will resume tomorrow. However, some personnel are expected to continue the search overnight.

“We are doing everything we can. Updates will be provided as the situation develops, and we ask for everyone’s prayers,” Nor added.
