Ayer Kuning polls: BN expects no hot issues to impact its chances

TAPAH: Barisan Nasional believes that its candidate would be able to weather most pressing issues for the Ayer Kuning by-election, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

The Umno supreme council member said that there were no serious issues that could sway voters here against the Barisan candidate Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

He said constituents here were not emotionally affected by any pressing matters, which was among the reasons the unity government lost in the Sungai Bakap by-election in July last year.

"There are no high water tariff issues.

"There are also no addendum issues now and people have already moved on from the removal of the diesel subsidy issue," he said in a press conference during a visit to the Batu Tiga district polling station here on Thursday (Apr 17).

Perikatan Nasional's Abidin Ismail defeated Joohari Ariffin of Pakatan Harapan in the Sungai Bakap by-election in July last year.

The Ayer Kuning by-election will be held on April 26, following the death of its incumbent Ishsam Shahruddin.

Dr Mohamad Yusri will contest the state seat against Perikatan's Abd Muhaimin Malek and Parti Sosialis Malaysia's KS Bawani.
