SIBU: Residents in Matu are advised to remain vigilant about the presence of wild animals, especially during unpredictable weather conditions.
According to Matu Civil Defence Force (APM) officer Lt (PA) Jumaat Akasas, wild animals such as crocodiles can become disoriented when river water levels rise, pushing them into residential areas.
This advisory follows an incident where a 2-metre crocodile wandered onto the main road in Kampung Halud, causing panic among residents before being captured by APM members.
"A resident spotted the reptile on the main road last night (April 9), which led to panic among the people. We were notified of the reptile by the resident at around 10.17pm," added Jumaat.
He said that four members were dispatched to the scene and managed to capture the crocodile in approximately 20 minutes.
“The crocodile, measuring about two metres, acted aggressively at first, making our attempt to capture it quite challenging.
“Our team used special equipment and successfully subdued it without any injuries to the operation personnel," he said on Thursday (April 10).
The reptile was subsequently sent to the District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) for further action.
