KUALA LUMPUR: The number of dengue fever cases dropped to 1,021 in Epidemiological Week 13 (EW13), from March 23 to 29, compared to 1,129 cases reported the previous week.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan, in a statement said no deaths due to dengue complications were reported during the same period.
He said the cumulative number of dengue cases reported up to EW13 stood at 16,296 with 10 deaths, compared to 44,144 cases and 31 deaths during the same period last year.
"However, the number of hotspot localities increased to 21 in EW13, compared to 20 the previous week,” he said.
Of the 21 localities, 14 were in Selangor, three in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, two in Sabah, and one each in Negri Sembilan and Kedah.
He reminded the public to remain vigilant to ensure dengue cases do not rise and stay below the five-year median, especially during the festive season, as the virus can be transmitted by infected individuals, including those without symptoms. - Bernama
