KUALA LUMPUR: The Littoral Mission Ship Batch 2 (LMSB2) project is expected to be completed by the middle of next year, says the Royal Malaysian Navy.
The keel laying ceremony for the project was conducted at the Istanbul Shipyard in Turkiye on Tuesday while a project monitoring committee (PMC) is chaired by Defence Ministry secretary- general Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali, including representatives of the company.
“PMC is designed to monitor the management, administration and implementation of the contract and the work progress on the LMSB2.
“The company involved also presented a report on the progress for all three combat ships, which is very encouraging.
“Based on this, the LMSB2 is expected to be completed and launched by mid next year before being handed over to us at the end of 2027,” the navy said in a statement.
The ceremony, which was officiated by Navy chief Admiral Datuk Zulhelmy Ithnain, is an important phase in the construction of a ship.
“The ceremony is a tradition in the ship construction industry, marking the start of the assembly of the ship’s main block at the dock.
“It is a continuation of the steel cutting ceremony which was conducted on Dec 4 last year,” it added.
