KUALA LUMPUR: Asst Comm Zulkepli Hashim has officially assumed duty as the new chief of the Kuala Lumpur Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID).

He succeeds Supt Mohamad Alpiyang Ali, who served as acting chief before this appointment.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa expressed confidence that ACP Zulkepli will lead the department to greater heights.

"He previously served as the Sabah NCID chief for almost two years.

"The NCID will benefit from his experience and leadership," Comm Rusdi said during the handing over ceremony at the KL police headquarters on Monday (April 7).

Comm Rusdi also praised Supt Mohamad Alpiyang for his exemplary service as acting NCID chief.

"He did a great job, conducting numerous drug busts," he added.

The KL NCID has often exceeded targets for drug busts and operations, Comm Rusdi noted.

"However, we must not rest on our laurels and must strive for further improvement.

"Our successes must be felt by the people in Kuala Lumpur. We don't want a scenario where our numbers are good, but the reality is the opposite," he said.

One of the main focuses for the KL NCID is targeting drug abuse and trafficking at entertainment outlets in the city.

"I hope that the new KL NCID chief will spearhead more successful operations against the drug menace," he said.
