KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan has lodged a report urging police to investigate those responsible for false claims linking the party to the issuance of citizenship for undocumented migrants and support for illegal settlements.
Warisan youth chief Terence Au named a TikTok user and identified a website behind the spread of the allegations in his report lodged at the Karamunsing police station on Saturday (April 5).
Au claimed that those behind the post were trying to pin or accuse the Warisan president, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, of issuing citizenships and allowing an illegal settlement in Sepanggar to build new houses.
Au said the post implied that Shafie had done the alleged acts during his time as chief minister.
“We want those responsible to be brought to court,” Au said Sunday (April 6).
Warisan information chief Datuk Azis Jamman said the issuance of identification or citizenship documents was solely under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government through the National Registry Department.
He said that Shafie issued a letter supporting the MyKas application, a temporary identification document issued by the department that had nothing to do with the issuance of citizenship.
The Warisan report comes after the Kadazandusun Cultural Association youth chief, Steve Johnny Mositun, called for an investigation into two official letters in circulation that allegedly had Shafie's written instructions supporting applications for identification documents.
Mositun also wanted the Registry Department and the Home Ministry to disclose the number of MyKas, MyPR and MyKad applications supported by Shafie when he was the chief minister between 2018 and 2020.
Mositun asked if the applications went through the proper documentation process, security screening, and compliance with the National Registration Act 1959 laws or provisions under the Federal Constitution.
He also urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the police to investigate.
