Man arrested for allegedly raping teen stepdaughter in Tawau

KOTA KINABALU: A man has been arrested for allegedly raping his 19-year-old stepdaughter in an incident at Batu 14, Jalan Apas in Tawau on Tuesday.

Tawau OCPD Supt Champin Piuh said police received a report about the alleged incident before launching an operation to track down the suspect.

He said the victim had informed her cousin about the alleged rape via a phone call.

“After being told what happened, the cousin immediately lodged a police report at the Sri Indah police station,” he said in a statement on Saturday (April 5).

He said a 54-year-old man was detained at around 6.50pm at an oil palm plantation in Semporna.

Initial investigations found that the suspect is a foreigner and does not possess any valid identification documents, Supt Champin said.

“The suspect was taken to the Semporna police station before being handed over to Tawau district police headquarters for further action,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, Section 506 of the Penal Code, and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
