Sandakan man escapes crashed car just before it bursts into flames

KOTA KINABALU: It was a close call for a man who lost control of his vehicle before crashing to the roadside near a petrol station at Mile 13, Sandakan.

It is believed that the car burst into flames just minutes after it crashed, with the 34-year-old driver getting out just in time before it was engulfed in flames.

Sandakan Fire Station chief Severinus@Mohd Nidzam Sainkui said in the 1.30pm mishap on Thursday (April 3), the driver had lost control of his car causing it to swerve and crash to the roadside bush area.

“It then caught fire. The victim managed to get out without much injuries,” he said in a statement.

He said firemen arrived at the scene almost immediately after receiving a call at 1.38pm and fire was brought under control at 2.05pm.

Firemen wrapped up operations on scene after making sure there were no other hazardous elements present.
