Three killed in Telupid car crash

Roadside tragedy: The scene of the crash near the Telupid health clinic.

KOTA KINABALU: The balik kampung rush for Hari Raya and school holidays has seen three deaths and eight injuries following two accidents in interior Telupid, about 200km from the state capital, over the past three days.

In the latest accident early yesterday, two people – a baby boy and a woman – were killed, while five others escaped with minor injuries.

Beluran Fire Station chief Edoen Macheal said they received a call about the accident in front of the Telupid health clinic at 6.28am.

“Early investigations found that the victims were travelling in a sedan when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to swerve and crash,” he said when contacted.

He said six of the victims were assisted out of the wrecked car and brought to the hospital for treatment, while a man who was trapped inside managed to get out after firemen arrived to extricate him.

The woman and baby were pronounced dead at the hospital, said Edoen.

Last Friday, a 46-year-old man was killed while three others – a 45-year-old woman, a 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy – sustained injuries when the vehicle they were travelling in skidded and overturned before crashing along Kg Buis Kiabau.

Edoen said road users who witnessed the mishap helped three of the victims to the hospital, while the trapped man was only extricated when firemen arrived.

He was pronounced dead by medical officials at the scene.
