Two killed in crash in Johor

BATU PAHAT: Two people were killed in an accident involving a car and a motorcycle at KM31.5 of the Kluang-Batu Pahat road here.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the incident was believed to have happened at a junction at about 11.55pm on Saturday (March 29).

“Initial investigation found that the motorcycle, ridden by a 23-year-old local man from Parit Raja, was heading towards Ayer Hitam when it collided with a car coming from the opposite direction.

“The car, driven by a 65-year-old local man, was making a turn into a junction when the accident occurred,” he said in a statement on Sunday (March 30).

He added that both the motorcyclist and the car driver suffered severe head injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Kluang, a 53-year-old clerk was killed after he crashed his car into a tree at Km57.5 of the Batu Pahat-Mersing road.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the incident was believed to have happened at about 11pm on Saturday (March 29) when the man was travelling from Kluang to Mersing.

"Early investigation suggested that the driver lost control of the wheels, causing the car to skid to the side of the road before hitting a tree," he said in a statement.

As a result of the collision, the man suffered serious injuries to his head and was pronounced dead at the scene, ACP Bahrin added.

Both cases are being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
