Drunken farm worker arrested for parang threat in Tawau

KOTA KINABALU: A drunken farm worker who allegedly threatened his colleague with a parang at their workers’ quarters in Tawau has been arrested.

The incident happened on Saturday (March 29), prompting the victim to lodge a police report out of fear for his safety.

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said police arrested the suspect shortly after receiving the report.

"Acting on the report, a team from the Tawau Criminal Investigation Division and Bandar Sri Indah police station conducted a raid and detained the suspect at his workplace," he said.

Several machetes and knives believed to be linked to the case were also seized.

The suspect, a foreign man in his 40s, is being held at the district police headquarters for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

Meanwhile, in a separate case, during a routine crime prevention patrol in Tawau on Saturday morning, police spotted a man acting suspiciously at Kabota Square and moved in to check.

While nothing illegal was found on him, officers suspected the 24-year-old had ingested drugs.

He was taken to the district police headquarters for further tests, where he later tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
