KUALA TERENGGANU: A kindergarten assistant who was taking out the rubbish was injured when a bicycle recklessly thrown from the 12th floor of a People’s Housing Project (PPR) flats struck her head.
Azuraini Yazid, 43, who works with the Community Development Department (Kemas), was walking out from her ninth-floor unit on Tuesday evening to dispose of rubbish when the incident happened.
Recounting the horrifying moment, her husband Jusri Ibrahim, 48, said his wife suddenly collapsed after being hit by the falling bicycle.
“The incident was witnessed by my daughter who was on her way to pick up her motorcycle from the parking area.
“Residents nearby quickly rushed to help. My wife was immediately taken to the emergency unit of Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah for treatment,” he said when contacted yesterday by Bernama.
Azuraini, who received five stitches to her head, was in stable condition and allowed to return home yesterday morning.
Jusri added that he had approached the owner of the bicycle for clarification.
The owner, however, had claimed that the bicycle belonging to his child was placed in the corridor, and had been thrown down by another resident.
Kuala Terengganu police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor confirmed the incident, adding that a statement had been taken from a resident of the flats.
“We are conducting further investigations to identify the person responsible,” he said.
