'Stay safe on the roads,' says Melaka top cop

MELAKA: Melaka's top cop is extending Hari Raya wishes to all and urges both revellers and motorists to stay safe as the festive season approaches.

Deputy Comm Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said that an estimated 200,000 vehicles are expected to enter the state over the festive period, passing through three main toll plazas.

"The safety of revellers and motorists is my foremost wish this Hari Raya," he said during the launch of Ops Selamat 2025 on Thursday (March 27).

The road safety operation, which runs from March 29 to April 3, was launched at Jalan Mufti Haji Khalil here.

DCP Dzulkhairi said 108,000 vehicles are anticipated to pass through the Ayer Keroh toll plaza, Simpang Ampat (83,000) and Jasin (30,000).

He said that to ensure smooth traffic flow, 19 senior officers and 140 rank-and-file personnel would be deployed to monitor congestion hotspots and high-risk accident areas.

He also said police would increase patrols in residential areas and commercial premises.

"So far, we have received 176 'balik kampung' notifications from residents via digital platforms and manual forms at police stations in the state," he said.
