Police investigating viral footage of assault in Johor

JOHOR BARU: Police have launched an investigation into an assault incident caught on video and uploaded to TikTok by user @epul_676.

Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh said the video, now viral, shows a man being repeatedly assaulted by another individual.

A 29-year-old local man lodged a police report at 4.29pm on Monday (March 24).

He added that the initial investigations revealed the incident occurred around 4.40pm on Sunday(March 23) at the traffic light intersection of Jalan Tampoi and Jalan Persiaran Tanjung.

The victim was riding his motorcycle and had stopped at the traffic lights when he got into an argument with an unknown man, also on a motorcycle.

The suspect then hit the victim several times in the head before fleeing the scene.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

If found guilty, the offender faces up to a year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

Police urge anyone with information about the incident to contact the Johor Baru North district police headquarters at 07-5563122.

"Do not take matters into your own hands. Stay calm, abide by the law, and let the authorities handle the situation," ACP Balveer added.
