MUAR: A 69-year-old motorcyclist was killed in an accident involving a car and a motorcycle near a petrol station along Jalan Jabbar, Parit Jawa, here on Tuesday (March 25) morning.
Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said police received a report on the incident from a member of the public at 6.40am.
“Initial investigations revealed that the accident occurred when a 75-year-old local man driving a car attempted to turn right into a junction.
“He collided with a motorcycle ridden by another local man, aged 69 years old, who was travelling straight along Jalan Abdul Rahman towards Parit Jawa town,” he said in a statement.
As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist was thrown into a roadside drain and was pronounced dead at the scene. The car driver was unharmed.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
ACP Raiz Mukhliz urged road users to exercise caution, particularly when entering or exiting junctions, and to ensure the road ahead is clear before making a turn.
“Anyone with information regarding the accident is encouraged to come forward and assist with investigations by contacting the Muar District Police Traffic Division or the nearest police station,” he added.
Meanwhile, Muar Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Mohamad Syafiq Mohamad Zin said his team received an emergency call regarding the accident at 6.13am and immediately dispatched personnel to the scene.
“A Fire and Rescue Operations Team from the Muar Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the location at 7.04am after travelling 20km.
“The impact of the crash caused the victim to be thrown into a drain about 1m deep. Firefighters used special equipment and a stretcher to retrieve the victim,” he said.
He added that medical personnel from the health department confirmed that the motorcyclist had died at the scene. The car driver was not present when rescue operations were underway.
The victim’s body was later handed over to the police for further action. Mohamad Syafiq said the rescue operation concluded at 7.48am after ensuring the area was safe.
A total of nine personnel, along with two emergency vehicles — including a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit — were deployed for the operation.
