JOHOR BARU: The flood situation in Johor has shown signs of improvement, with the number of affected residents and evacuation centres decreasing.
However, the Johor Disaster Management Committee remained on high alert, closely monitoring the situation due to concerns about potential high tides.
“As of 2pm on Monday (March 24), the number of affected families has dropped from 1,114 to 704, while the total number of victims has decreased from 3,670 to 2,472.
“The number of operational temporary evacuation centres (PPS) has also reduced from 24 to 23. However, the floods continue to impact five districts, which are Johor Baru, Pontian, Kota Tinggi, Kluang and Batu Pahat,” said the committee in a Monday statement.
The committee added that Johor Baru remains the worst-hit district. Seven evacuation centres are still in operation, sheltering 1,281 victims from 356 families.
“We urged residents to stay alert, especially with high tide forecasts for the coming days.
“We are closely monitoring water levels and weather conditions, and the public should follow official updates and take necessary precautions,” the committee said.
The committee added that authorities would continue to coordinate relief efforts with local agencies, including the Civil Defense Force and Meteorological Department, to manage evacuation procedures and provide aid to flood victims.
