Investigation papers on doctor accused of indecent acts submitted

GEORGE TOWN: Three investigation papers involving a 43-year-old doctor accused of indecent acts towards patients have been submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP), said Penang police chief Comm Datuk Hamzah Ahmad.

"All three investigation papers have been referred to the prosecution to determine the next course of action," he said during a press conference at the state police contingent headquarters on Monday (March 24).

The doctor was first arrested on Feb 26 after police were alerted by the hospital about the incident.

He was remanded and then released on police bail on March 2 but was then rearrested on March 6 as he is suspected of a similar offence against another female patient at a private clinic.

After his remand ended on March 10, he was rearrested over a third report.

A woman claimed the suspect deceived her into removing her clothing during a heart examination at the hospital on Feb 20.

In a separate development, Comm Hamzah said eight suspects have been arrested to assist investigations into the murder of a Myanmar nasi kandar manager in Taman Sepadu Jaya, Tasek Gelugor on March 7.

He said the incident is believed to be motivated by revenge from a long-standing dispute between the victim's family in Malaysia and their country of origin.

"We have arrested eight individuals, both locals and foreigners, in their 30s and 40s to facilitate investigations.

"The motive for this murder is believed to be due to revenge between the two parties, and further investigation is underway," he said, adding that police have identified and are tracking the main suspect on the run.

During the incident, the 38-year-old Myanmar man was killed on the spot after being hacked to death by a group armed with machetes.
