Over 6,500 displaced as relief efforts continue in Johor

JOHOR BARU: The flood situation in Johor remains critical, with five districts still affected as of noon on Sunday (March 23), says the Johor Disaster Management Committee.

The committee added that while the number of affected families has decreased from 2,161 to 1,988, a total of 6,585 victims were still displaced.

“The number of operational temporary relief centres (PPS) remains at 44, but three additional centres have been opened.

“Johor Baru remains the worst-hit district, with 15 active relief centres sheltering 3,435 victims from 1,105 families. Other affected areas include Pontian (1,419 victims), Kluang (1,300 victims), Kota Tinggi (90 victims) and Batu Pahat (341 victims),” the statement reads.

The committee also confirmed that no fatalities have been reported so far, and authorities continue to monitor river levels and weather conditions closely, as heavy rainfall is expected in several areas.

“Residents in flood-prone regions are urged to stay alert and follow official updates,” the committee said, adding that for assistance, the Johor Disaster Management Committee can be contacted at 07-2322484/5 or via WhatsApp at 019-2127215.
