Floods: 1,015 victims placed at relief centres in Johor

JOHOR BARU: More than 1,000 individuals have been relocated to temporary relief centres (PPS) across Johor due to continuous heavy rainfall since Wednesday (March 19).

The Johor Disaster Management Committee reported that as of 10am on Thursday (March 20), a total of 1,015 flood victims from 299 families have been placed in 11 PPS across three flood-affected districts.

"The majority of the victims are from Johor Baru, with 674 people evacuated, followed by Kulai with 269 people and Pontian with 80 people," the committee said in a statement.

The PPS with the highest number of evacuees is SK Bukit Mutiara, which is currently housing 278 individuals from three villages—Kampung Kangkar Tebrau, Kampung Paya Kenangan, and Kampung Pasir Tebrau.

The committee has also raised concerns about rising water levels in several rivers.

Three river monitoring stations have recorded dangerous levels; Sungai Siam near Kampung Siam, Kulai; Sungai Skudai near Kampung Laut, and Parit Keliling near Kampung Pasir, both in Johor Baru.

Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to remain vigilant and adhere to evacuation orders issued by authorities.

The public is also advised to stay updated through official channels and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
