Army nabs four foreigners trying to sneak across Sg Golok

KOTA BARU: The Malaysian Army, through the 2nd Infantry Division Headquarters (2 Division), arrested four Pakistani nationals who attempted to enter the country by crossing the Golok River on Wednesday (March 19).

According to a statement from 2 Division on Thursday (March 20), the incident occurred at 10.50 pm while the operations team was patrolling the Eighth Infantry Brigade (KTJ 8 Bgd) Sector Area of Responsibility.

"The patrolling operation team spotted a boat carrying five adult men crossing Sungai Golok towards Malaysia.

"However, only four of them were detained on the banks of Sungai Golok on the Malaysian side, while another man believed to be the boat captain managed to escape towards Thailand," he said.

The statement said that the results of the inspection found that all of them were Pakistani citizens who entered Malaysia illegally to find work.

"They claimed that they had paid a sum of money to an agent in Thailand who managed the entry process into Malaysia and if the agent in Malaysia was successful, the Pakistani citizen would act as a 'transporter' to send them to the south of the country to find work," he said.

He said that during the arrest, mobile phones, several pieces of Pakistani, Thai and Malaysian currency and several personal items with a total value of RM7,555 were also found.
