KUCHING: The three-day Sarawak English Literacy Conference (SELC) 2025, will feature insightful discussions and best practices in efforts to improve English language proficiency.
Sarawak Deputy Minister for Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said participants will engage in meaningful discussions, share best practices and explore innovative strategies to enhance English literacy.
"It is an important platform for improving literacy and education in our state. Our goal is to introduce the English language from the very beginning, starting from preschool and continuing through to university.
"The conference also aims to develop a skilled and proficient workforce, especially in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), by strengthening literacy education through innovation and collaboration,” he told a press conference here on Tuesday (March 18).
He added that the conference would provide educators with practical strategies for classroom success, encourage community-driven literacy initiatives and ensure that literacy education reaches all areas in Sarawak.
Meanwhile, according to a statement distributed at the press conference, the SELC 2025 will serve as a platform to bridge language barriers and enhance education standards, ultimately positioning Sarawak as a hub for knowledge, innovation and global collaboration.
"It will feature prominent figures in literacy and STEM education, including Gilbert Jolly, the incoming chief executive officer of Jolly Learning; Sara Wernham, co-author of Jolly Phonics; and Sara Dagnell, a STEM education specialist,” it added.
