Two ETS train sets due to be shipped from China next month, says Transport Minister

SEREMBAN: Two sets of Electric Train Service (ETS) trains are due to be shipped to Malaysia from China next month, says Anthony Loke Siew Fook.

The Transport Minister said the frequency of the ETS service is set to improve with more trains being put in service in stages.

"We are also building the ETS coaches at a facility in Batu Gajah.

"By the end of the year, the ETS service nationwide is set to further improve," he said.

The new ETS3 trains have a seating capacity of 312 seats, with 36 for business class and 276 standard seats.

Loke said commuters travelling to stations between Kuala Lumpur and the soon-to-be-operational Johor Baru station will benefit once the Segamat-Johor Baru Electrified Double-Track Rail Project is completed.

In January, Loke was reported as saying that the stretch should be completed by the third quarter of this year.

"The frequency of the ETS service is set to increase with more new ETS trains coming into service by the end of the year.

"So passengers will have more options when travelling north or south," he said

On a separate matter, Loke said DAP will not be making any proposals to the Prime Minister for changes to its representatives in Cabinet following Sunday's (March `16) central executive committee polls.

"I would like to make it clear that there will be no changes to our present line up.

"The ministers and deputy ministers will continue to serve whether they are in the CEC or otherwise," he said.

Earlier, Loke attended a breaking of fast event with the local community in the Seremban parliamentary constituency where he handed cash aid totalling RM210,000 to local mosques and surau.
