Perikatan submits request for MP funding

PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional has officially submitted a request to discuss constituency allocations for its MPs, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof confirmed.

Fadillah said Perikatan chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan sent the application letter last Friday.

The deputy prime minister said he would review the request and respond accordingly, Sinar Harian reported yesterday.

“I will go through it first and, after receiving guidance, I will respond,” he was quoted as saying.

Previously, Takiyuddin announced his intention to send a letter to the Federal Government regarding allocations for opposition MPs.

Last year, on Sept 15, Perikatan unanimously rejected a draft memorandum of understanding on the matter, arguing that it conflicted with the Federal Constitution – particularly regarding its implications for Malay and bumiputra special rights.

In response, Fadillah later made the draft public and urged the Opposition to propose recommendations for a revised version.

Separately, Fadillah declined to provide further details on when constituency funds would be disbursed to Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

Earlier this month, Fadillah revealed that Syed Saddiq had agreed in principle to the government’s conditions for receiving allocations.

At the time, he stated that the final details were being worked out and would soon be finalised.
