Man fined RM90,000 for illegal possession of 44,000l of diesel in Labuan


LABUAN: A 33-year-old man was fined RM90,000 by the Sessions Court on Monday (March 17) after pleading guilty to three counts of illegally possessing 44,000 litres of diesel.

Tee Neng Yee, 33, admitted before Judge Marlina Ibrahim that he stored 40,000 litres and 2,000 litres each of the controlled item in Flexi and IBC tanks.

The offences were committed at an industrial area in Kampung Sungai Bangat at 1pm on March 27, 2023.

He was charged under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and Sub-regulation 3(1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974.

Under the Act, individuals convicted of such offences face fines of up to RM1mil (or RM3mil for repeat offences) and/or imprisonment of up to three years.

Companies may be fined up to RM2mil, with penalties increasing to RM5mil for subsequent violations. -Bernama
