Nurul Izzah intends to defend VP post in PKR party polls

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar has confirmed her intention to defend her position in the upcoming party elections in May.

She emphasised the importance of leadership regeneration within the party.

Nurul Izzah, a key figure in PKR since its early days, said her decision to contest was driven by the need to nurture talent from the grassroots level.

“I believe there is a need to celebrate the talents within the party by ensuring the regeneration process starts from the grassroots.

“Therefore, I am offering my service as vice-president, and I hope party members will give me the opportunity to shoulder this responsibility in line with the concept of fardu kifayah (communal responsibility),” she said.

Nurul Izzah, daughter of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was speaking to reporters at the Majlis Sumbangan Kasih Ramadan here last night.

Also present were Anwar’s political secretary, Datuk Azman Abidin, and Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing.

Reflecting on her long-standing commitment to PKR, she said: “Since the formation of the party, I entered the political arena with the intention of fulfilling the principles of fardu kifayah.

“I hope this election will be contested in the spirit of camaraderie.”

Nurul Izzah also underscored the importance of unity within the party, stressing the need to provide the best talent with the space and opportunity to lead.

“We want to ensure a sense of togetherness prevails, in a collective effort to unite hearts and allow the best talents to be given room and opportunity – not just to be candidates, but to contribute meaningfully to the party,” she said.

The PKR elections will commence on April 11, with division-level elections, while nominations for central leadership positions are scheduled for May 3 and 4.
