IPOH: The Perak government plans to meet with AirAsia to understand the airline’s decision to suspend the Ipoh-Singapore route despite strong passenger demand, says Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin.
Mohammad Nizar, who chairs the state’s infrastructure, energy, water and public transport committee, said the state government aims to clarify whether the airline is facing operational challenges and explore possible solutions.
“We understand that the passenger load for the route is there, so it’s not an issue of demand.
“We want to understand if there are other reasons behind the decision and determine how we can work with AirAsia to potentially reinstate the service,” he said after launching the “Drive Safely, Safe During Aidilfitri” programme at Aeon Big near here yesterday.
On Wednesday, Perak tourism, industry, investment and corridor development committee chairman Loh Sze Yee said the state government was neither consulted nor informed prior to AirAsia’s announcement of the route’s termination.
He said that data consistently showed good demand for the route.
According to the low-cost carrier’s travel notice on support.airasia.com, the airline has suspended 17 routes, including the Ipoh-Singapore sector.
