REMBAU: Six passengers of an express bus suffered injuries after the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed at KM245.5 on the north-bound side of the North-South Expressway near here.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said it happened at 6am yesterday.

“There were 40 people on the bus, including the 56-year-old driver. The six injured passengers, all women, were immediately given treatment by paramedics,” he said in a statement.

The bus, which departed from Melaka Sentral at 5am, was en route to Kuala Lumpur.

Two injured passengers were taken to the Tuanku Jaáfar Hospital in Seremban for further treatment.

The spokesman said firemen from the Rembau, Senawang, Tampin, Kota, Seremban 2, and Seremban stations were involved in the operation.

“We managed to bring the situation under control at about 6.25am, and the operation ended an hour later,” he added.

Seremban police chief Asst Comm Mohamad Hatta Che Din urged eyewitnesses to contact investigating officer Insp Nor Fadzilah Mohd Zainuddin at 019-461 1794.

He said the bus crashed into the guardrail and landed on its side on the opposite stretch of the expressway.

The case is being probed under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
