Google Play users in Malaysia only able to 'set budget' in Myanmar numerals

PETALING JAYA: Google Play users in Malaysia are encountering a strange bug when attempting to set their spending budget in the store's app.

While the keyboard shows the standard Arabic numerals from "0" to "9", any input will display the digits in a foreign text.

The "set budget" menu can be accessed in the Google Play app's settings by tapping on "payments and subscriptions" and then "budget and history".

Attempts on multiple devices using different user accounts all reveal the same bug.

However, Google's own translate function reveals the digits as Myanmar text.

This oddity was discovered on Saturday (March 8) when attempting to set a budget as a reminder not to make too many in-app purchases for a favourite game.

As at 8pm on Monday (March 10), the error persists and it is unknown when Google will rectify the bug.

The Star has reached out to Google Malaysia for a response.
