Floods: 2,000 Civil Defence personnel deployed to assist in Sabah, Sarawak

KAJANG: A total of 2,000 Civil Defence personnel in Sabah and Sarawak are involved in rescue operations and assisting flood-affected residents.

Civil Defence chief commissioner Datuk Aminurrahim Mohamed said the flood situation in Sabah and Sarawak remains manageable with the existing personnel in both states.

"As of now, there is no need to deploy additional personnel, as those currently stationed there are sufficient. However, if necessary, further decisions will be considered," he told a press conference after the launch of the Civil Defence Month and the National Discourse on the Structure and Direction of Volunteerism in Malaysia on Monday (March 10).

Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad launched the event at the Institut Semarak Felda here.

Aminurrahim said that 15,300 active Civil Defence members had been identified through contributions to the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso).

He added that the allowance for personnel of other ranks is RM8 per hour, while officers receive RM9.80 per hour.

"The working hours for those based in offices are nine hours, for operations eight hours, and for disaster response 16 hours," he said. - Bernama
