Pakistani man killed in car-trailer collision in Johor

KOTA TINGGI: A 22-year-old Pakistani man was killed in a head-on collision involving a car and a trailer lorry at KM67.5 of Jalan Johor Baru-Mersing on Saturday (March 8) night.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said the police received information about the accident at around 10.45pm.

"The crash involved a car driven by the victim and a trailer lorry driven by a 57-year-old local man.

"Preliminary investigations suggest that the car, which was heading from Mersing towards Kota Tinggi, was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it failed to avoid the oncoming trailer lorry from the opposite direction," he said in a statement on Sunday (March 9).

Supt Yusof said the impact of the collision left the victim trapped inside his vehicle, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The trailer lorry driver did not sustain any injuries. The victim’s body has been sent to the forensic unit at Kota Tinggi Hospital for a postmortem to determine the cause of death," he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
