Floods: 24 schools in Beaufort affected, says Sabah Education Dept director

KOTA KINABALU: A total of 24 schools in Beaufort have been affected by floods following heavy rains over the last two days, says Sabah Education Department director Datuk Raisin Saidin.

He said if the flood situation does not improve in Beaufort and Membakut districts, it could affect schools on Monday.

"If some schools remain flooded or if access roads are still impassable, schools are encouraged to conduct replacement classes on Saturdays," Raisin said.

He said so far based on information received as of 2pm on Sunday (March 9), the affected schools were SK Mempagar, SK Pekan Membakut, SK Lago and SK Bangkalalak.

Also affected were SK Klias Baru, SK Lupak, SMK St John, SMK ST Paul, SK Kg Brunei, SK Suasa, SK Pintas, SK Batu 60, SK Bukau, SK Garama, SK Biah Batu 65, SJKC Kung Ming, SK Bambangan, SK Lingkungan, SK ST Patrick Membakut, SJKC Lian Hwa, SK Sinoko, SK Kebulu, SK Bandau and SK Ladang Lumadan.

He said additional classes would ensure students and teachers complete the required 190 days of schooling stipulated under the Education Act.
