Cops investigating reckless overtaking incident caught on video in Johor


BATU PAHAT: Police are investigating an incident of reckless driving in Batu Pahat after a viral video captured a vehicle dangerously overtaking another, nearly resulting in a head-on collision.

Batu Pahat district police chief Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the Batu Pahat District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPTD) received information about the incident, which was widely shared on social media.

“The video captured a car overtaking another recklessly and dangerously along Jalan Sri Bengkal, Parit Yaani, Batu Pahat.

“Police have launched an investigation under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving,” he said in a statement on Sunday (March 9).

He added that the section applies to individuals who drive a motor vehicle in a manner that poses a danger to the public, given all circumstances—including road conditions and traffic.

He also urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation.

Earlier, a 40-second video was posted on the Community Roda Johor Facebook page, showing a car narrowly avoiding another vehicle after attempting to overtake a lorry.
