DEWAN Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul has ruled that there is no case to refer Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong to the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee.
The Ayer Hitam MP said the motion by Chong Zhemin (PH-Kampar) was rejected after Johari examined both the motion and his explanation on the issue regarding the sale of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) shares by the Employees Provident Fund (EPF).
“I have examined the motion from YB Kampar and the explanation from YB Ayer Hitam. I am satisfied that there is no prima facie case in relation to the matters raised under Meeting Rules 36(6) and 36(12) of the Standing Orders of the Dewan Rakyat.
“This was the decision in a letter sent by the Dewan Rakyat Speaker to YB Kampar. I also received a copy of the letter,” Dr Wee wrote on Facebook yesterday.
“Today on March 6, everything has been clarified, proving that I did not violate the meeting rules regarding the issue of the sale of MAHB shares by EPF.”
Dr Wee also called on Chong to fulfil his promise to resign if EPF had lost even a single sen.
“YB Kampar can no longer rely on the response from the Finance Minister II, who stated that EPF had made a profit of RM102mil from the sale of the shares, because the issue in question is not just the sale but the action of selling at a lower price and buying back the shares at a higher price.
“The response from the Finance Minister II only mentioned the profit from the sale part but does not address the profit or loss from the repurchase at a higher price,” said Dr Wee.
Earlier in Parliament, Dr Wee called for Teresa Kok (PH-Seputeh) to apologise after she mentioned his name while speaking during debates on the Employees Provident Fund (Amendment) Bill 2025.
“She mentioned my name along with the Machang MP (Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal). I want her to apologise and retract her remarks.
“Because, I just got a letter from the Dewan Rakyat Speaker that the motion to refer me to Standing Orders 36(12) does not exist, as there is no prima facie case,” said Dr Wee.
“Don’t just mention my name out of nowhere. It is unfair to me,” he added.
Johari responded that he had not been presiding over the session when Kok made her remarks and had not personally heard them.
“So, it would be unfair for me to make a decision now. I will review the Hansard, and in the next meeting, we will take action,” Johari said briefly.
During her speech, Kok urged Wan Ahmad and Dr Wee to stop playing politics by repeating the MAHB issue, calling on them to uphold “what is right and true”.
Dr Wee and Wan Ahmad have been at odds with Pakatan Harapan leaders over EPF’s dealings with MAHB shares.
Previously, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan stated that EPF did not incur any losses from the sale and repurchase of MAHB shares.
