MELAKA: Three hotel kitchens have been ordered to shut down their operations for 14 days due to unsatisfactory hygiene levels, says state exco member Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem.
He said action was taken following inspections carried out by the food safety and quality division of the Melaka Health Department between Feb 17 and March 4.
“It was found that these three hotels had failed to meet cleanliness standards.
“We have given them time to clean their kitchens,” he said when contacted yesterday.
Ngwe, who is state health, human resources and unity committee chairman, said these hotels will be allowed to resume operations if they comply with the cleanliness standards.
The three hotels were among 41 hotel kitchens inspected across the state.
He said two ice factories were issued compound notices for failing to meet the required hygiene standards.
“A total of 36 violation notices were issued and 14 fines amounting to RM6,950 were meted on the premises owners,” he said, adding that action was taken under the Food Regulations 1985 and the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.
On another matter, Ngwe said 76 Ramadan bazaar traders were inspected since the start of the fasting month.
All the traders have complied with the food preparation regulations and hygiene standards set by the authorities, Ngwe added.
